What comes to mind when you think of a conventional classroom or training center? Probably outdated and worn equipment, chalkboards, No. 2 pencils and cords all over the place, maybe even a musty smell.

The world around us is evolving and we’re consuming and interacting with technology differently. Emerging technologies are providing us with real-time information that we need and want on demand. Think fridges that play music; artificial intelligence (AI) like Siri that instantly speaks answers to questions; computers that give athletes individualized training plans; smartwatches that act as phones; pens that record audio and wrist bands that track your fitness routine.
The traditional classroom setting can be slow to catch up. However, savvy education providers are taking measures to keep up with the latest technologies. They’ve created more student-centric learning environments to achieve a deeper interaction between instructors and students. The passive learning scene is fading away; collaboration and technology is in. At Global Knowledge we’ve witnessed firsthand this evolution of learner preferences. We’ve written about utilizing technology for learning success and we’re going even further by adding more tools to our instructor toolbox to do just that – engage with you, our learners, better.
Beginning with our Santa Clara, California training center, we’re transforming both the physical and virtual student learning environments by adding:
- Large touch screens that act as whiteboards for real-time brainstorming. As a result, your creative ideas are captured across virtual platforms and can be saved for reference later.
- Student video streaming capabilities
- Individual work areas for students to use their own device, spread out notebooks and have a personal workspace
- An additional computer monitor for students training in physical classrooms
- More whiteboard space and passive monitors displaying the screen at the back of the room
- Improved desk placement to create a natural viewing angle of the instructor and peers
- Stronger connectivity and clearer audio for online students
How we consume information is becoming more specific and tailored – subsequently changing how we like to learn. Technology will never stop advancing. I’m looking forward to seeing just how differently we’re learning in 2050. How do you think it will look? All virtual? Mobile? Will there be glimpses of “I know Kung Fu” Matrix realm learning? Whatever it will be – it’s going to be the education provider’s job to evolve as the technology environment does for students to maximize their learning, time and investment.
