Gain Advanced Security Knowledge with the CASP Certification

Hardly a week goes by that you don’t read a news story about a security breach or hacking attempt. More and more companies place an emphasis on securing their digital assets.  CompTIA has developed a certification to meet this need, the CompTIA Advanced Security Professional (CASP). What’s great about this certification is that it’s targeted toward security professionals with five to ten years of security experience.

What’s also great about this exam is that it places an emphasis on the items that today’s security professional really needs to know. These topics include:

  • Stopping hackers before they access your network or breach your security defenses
  • Configuring, deploying, and managing advanced defensive controls, such as web application firewalls
  • Addressing advanced persistent threats and techniques used to deal with threats, such as cross-site scripting (XSS)
  • Current best practices in intrusion detection system (IDS) design and signature development

While CompTIA has been a leader in entry level exams such as A+ and Security+, I am glad to see them make the move to an advanced security certification. This certification is also a great path for advancement for those that may already have a Security+ certification and want to increase their skills. If you’re interested in this certification, you can review the outline at the CompTIA website.
